Sheffield Student’s Investment Conference (SSIC) 2026

CIMA CPD at Chatsworth House: Insights and key takeaways
22/09/2025

Background

On March 13th 2026, we attended the Sheffield Student’s Investment Conference hosted by the University of Sheffield Investment Society. This event brought together students within USIS and experts in fields such as M&A, Precision Metals, Technology and Investment Management.

Approach

PryceWilliams’ involvement with the society spans several years. Last year we attended SSIC 2025, we have advised the student-led Twikker fund, and during this year’s event, Parrish Pryce-Williams spoke on Digital Assets and AI. This post reflects on our experience at this year’s event.

Analysis

During the day, we spoke with over 50 students who are interested in careers in Finance. We were thrilled to be asked many questions, such as on improving employability, using technologies like AI and the role of digital assets in finance. A key takeaway from our discussions is that the students from the society are highly ambitious, intelligent, and poised for successful careers.

In addition to the networking opportunities, the event consisted of talks from several companies:

  • Brooks Macdonald – UK Market & Macro Outlook Panel
  • Bullion Vault – Commodities: Precious Metals
  • Deutsche Bank – Equity Capital Markets & Investment Banking
  • Sentio Partners – Mid-Market M&A Panel
  • FSE Group – Private Credit & Growth Debt: Investing in SMEs

Parrish Pryce-Williams additionally gave a presentation on the emerging trends of AI and Digital Assets. Below are some key takeaways from his talk:

  • Data is at the centre of finance. This allows for other technologies to be utilised, such as AI, Digital Assets, Cloud, Cyber-Security and Financial Intelligence.
  • Digital Assets are finding a use-case with Stablecoins – tokens pegged to something stable, like the US dollar. Blockchain technology underpinning these tokens enables highly efficient transactions, especially for cross-border payments.
  • LLMs are useful for the reasons frequently discussed: research, summarisations – for example. However, users must carefully read and understand the responses it provided. There exist cases where firms have simply handed AI-assisted reports to clients, containing several flaws such as hallucinations, fabricated references and incorrect footnotes.
  • AI and Digital Assets intersect. AI Agents need a way to pay for tasks, such as data retrieval. Gateways, like Coinbase’s x402, is a way that this can be achieved.

The day finished by announcing the winners of the Equity Research Competition and Award Ceremony - presented and sponsored by Mole Valley Asset Management - and reflections from Steve Kiln – the founder of the Twikker Fund.

Conclusions

The Sheffield Student Investment Conference, and USIS more broadly, is a great way for students to gain exposure to the world of Finance. We were thrilled to be part of the event, where we met ambitious students and experts in various fields. We thoroughly enjoyed the event, and look forward to SSIC 2027 and our continuous involvement with the society.

Recommendations

We highly recommend students getting involved in USIS, some reasons include:

  • Meet like-minded students: The society consists of students interested in Finance. It therefore serves as a great way to meet new friends, future business partners and colleagues.
  • Exposure to the world of Finance: Through the societies Twikker Fund, students gain exposure to investments using real capital.
  • Events: Through USIS, students can attended events like these and meet experts in interesting fields. This can be a great way to upskill knowledge and network.
